With this visa, a person may be employed, self-employed, work for any employer and in any sector at any level. However, in order to extend leave or settle in the UK, evidence of working in their field of speciality is required.

If you specialise in the digital technology field, you can apply under a subcategory of this visa category: the Tech Nation Visa Scheme. No maintenance or English language requirements need to be met for this type of visa, and if you are granted a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa, you can be granted up to five years leave (if applying within the UK) or five years 4 months if applying from abroad.
